About SpeedCams.us
Our Mission
SpeedCams.us provides the most comprehensive, transparent database of traffic enforcement cameras in the United States. Our goal is to give drivers clear, accurate information about speed cameras, red light cameras, and other automated enforcement systems so they can make informed decisions and understand their rights.
Who We Are
SpeedCams.us is a project of SpeedCams US, a data journalism and technology company based in Barcelona, Spain. We specialize in building transparent, public-interest databases that make government data accessible and understandable to everyday people.
Our team combines expertise in data engineering, web development, and transportation policy to create authoritative resources on traffic enforcement across the US.
Why This Site Exists
Automated traffic enforcement is expanding rapidly across the United States, but information about camera locations, laws, and your rights is fragmented and hard to find. We believe in transparency: drivers deserve to know where cameras are located, how they work, what the fines are, and how to exercise their legal rights when they receive a ticket.
SpeedCams.us is not anti-camera or pro-camera. We present the facts and let you draw your own conclusions. Our data comes from official government sources, open data portals, and community contributions.
Data Methodology
Our camera location data is aggregated from multiple official and community sources, including OpenStreetMap, city open data portals (Chicago, DC, San Francisco, and more), and state DOT publications. We run automated data pipelines to fetch, merge, deduplicate, and geocode camera locations. Our legal data is researched from state statutes, NCSL publications, and official government sources.
For full details on our data sources, coverage, and methodology, see our Data Sources page.
